Dimensions
Adding Dimensions
Using the Parameters custom template, define the dimension count with the DIMENSIONCOUNT parameter. Then save and close the custom template.
In Database Management, execute the "Update dimensions" task.
Restart the Clausion client.
Using the Dimension Codes custom template, add the codes, hierarchy counts and depth to the dimensions. Then save and close the custom template.
-
In Database Management, execute the following tasks in the following order:
Update BwNonAllocatedUnit
Update dimension hierarchies
-
Restart the Clausion client.
For more information about database management, see Database Management.
You cannot add more dimensions to the system than the licence file allows. If there are more dimensions in the system than the licence file allows, the Clausion client opens to users with administrator rights showing only the Parameters and Database Management tasks so that an administrator can decrease the number of dimensions. For other users, the Clausion client closes after an error message, and they will not be able to log in until an administrator has decreased the number of dimensions.
If a new licence file with more dimensions is taken into use, users must restart the Clausion client.
For instructions on modifying the dimension basic data and adding unit extra fields and hierarchies to the dimensions, see Modifying Dimensions.
Modifying Dimensions
Location: Dimensions (task ID: DimensionMntBasic)
You can add dimensions to the system using the Parameters custom template.
The dimension management functions are available for users who have administrator rights.
It is not recommended that several users use the same management function at the same time.
-
On the Basic Data tab, select the data types you want to connect to the dimension.
When a data type connection is removed from a dimension, the connections are also removed from all its units that are connected to the data type. If data has been entered to a unit or any of its sub-units for the data type, the connection cannot be removed.
-
On the Unit Extra Fields tab, add new unit extra fields for the dimension if needed.
If you select Text for Field Format and Free text entry for Field Type, type the maximum length of the text in the Max length of field text field.
-
If you select Drop-down list or Check box for Field Type, the Options list is enabled in the right-hand side pane. Add the desired options for the drop-down list or check box and select which option you want to set as the default (Default drop-down list > Yes). For drop-down lists, you can only select one default option. For check boxes, you can select any number of default options.
Note that the properties of unit extra fields cannot be modified in the following cases:
The format of a unit extra field cannot be changed from text to numeric if data has already been entered to the field.
The field type cannot be changed from free text to drop-down list or check box if data has already been entered to the field. A drop-down list or check box can always be changed to free text.
A unit extra field cannot be deleted if data has already been entered to the field.
On the Hierarchies tab, add the hierarchies for the dimension.
To take the new hierarchies in use, go to the Database Management view and execute the "Update BWNonAllocatedUnit" task.
Used in reconciliation is not in use in the current version.
Creating New Hierarchies
The dimension management functions are available for users who have administrator rights.
In Dimensions (task ID: DimensionMntBasic) > Hierarchies, add a new hierarchy for the dimension (see Modifying Dimensions).
Go to Units (task ID: DimensionMntYearly) and select the dimension and year combination for which you want to create a hierarchy from the Dimension and Year drop-down lists.
-
From the Hierarchy drop-down list, select the hierarchy you want to create. All units available for the dimension are listed under Units not in use below the hierarchy tree. To view more units, use the horizontal scroll bar below the list.
When you create the first hierarchy for a new dimension, you must add the units for the dimension one by one. To add units, go to the Units view (see Managing Units).
-
Under Units not in use, select the units you want to add to the hierarchy and click
.
The BWNonAllocatedItem unit cannot be added to the hierarchy, but is always located under Units not in use.
You must add unit rights for the new hierarchy before it can be used. See Managing Unit Rights.
You can also add new units to the hierarchy. For instructions, see Managing Units and Importing and Exporting Units.
For arranging the units in the hierarchy, see Arranging Units in Hierarchy.
